The current wack-a-mole rpg rubbish just isn't doing it for me tbh. Tried and failed to like WAR, AION and CONAN recently. All high on stylised gfx but none seem to offer any kind of challenge.

I have seen myself gravitating towards the fps/3ps online games recently. Maybe we should set up a section for them as well?

Atm im playing Borderlands with Phil - great game btw. And I've spent many a long hour on L4D and COD: modern warfare.

Im keeping an eye on the following mmofps games that I think we could move into as a guild...

Also has anyone tried Darkfall yet? Heard it's finally been released and is a hardcore pvp game.

Global agenda looks interesting but given the last few years worth of releases I won't be holding my breath.

Darkfail came out in february or thereabouts. It was shit.
The problem was it had a severe case of Vanguard Syndrome, if you can remember what that was like - big on the promises and vision, rather light on the actual delivery. It's a sandbox game, which is nice, but it's one with no buckets and containing only dry sand and the odd turd. All you can make is a nondescript heap with varying amounts of poo in it. That said it is still alive and had an "expansion" apparently containing a fair bit of stuff that should have been in from the beginning, so if you feel like a gamble...


Another on in the scifi fps vein is Dust 514. Not due out for a while and console only for release so far (to keep it a separate market from EVE, apparently) but definitely has potential. I think CCP are one of only 2 games companies I have any faith left in now.
As the current trailer isn't actually very informative, it seems like basically a more structured version of something like one of the battlefield games set in the EVE universe, and actually in the same world as the EVE game, rather than a copy of the map. You're part of a merc compan employed to attack/defend planets on the map (bits of which are the maps you fight over) which if it works will feed through to the sovereignty system in EVE, and back in the form of merc contracts from alliances and corps do get goals and stuff. If it doesn't work then I suspect it'll end up as a larger scale version of battlefield but in SPACE and 64+ people.

Bonus side of this one is if it's actually any good and works as advertised then I could employ you to shoot minnies in the face.

APB looks to much like GTA and i rather hate that game with a vengeance.

Darkfall looks to have that DAOC thing about it. By thing I mean Zerg warfare!!


Still I quite like the idea of an all pvp game and the fact that you actually have to aim your spells/arrows does show that they haven't gone the lets make it so easy a console owner could play it route.

As for DUST 514, the only console I own is a wii, so I very much doubt I will be playing that.

APB being a GTA ripoff? Yeah it is (the guy making this was part of Rockstar), but it's basically all RL players so it's not like you will play it like GTA anyway. I quite like the idea of RS owning a part of the city and having turf wars.

Darkfall did look good, think i played for all of 30 minutes then gave up on it. Like AoC it had a lot of promise but never followed through.

Think the reason i have come to hate GTA so much is due to the way they have prolonged it with so many follow ups.

But the thought of owning turf as a gang (guild) could be rather good fun. But only time will tell like all other games, they show lots of promise, but never really deliver the same results, DAoC always kinda stick in your mind.

I´m keeping UT3 warm from occation to occation(10-20 minutes here and there) and i still have´nt found a game that can compete with it ona fast-paced fps pvp-game.

Q3 arena is close, but i dont enjoy the gfx too much. QW is still top of the top tho =)

Problem with those two games, is kill bots, take the fun away and puts me off straight away.

Darkfall is and always will be a pile of shite that I'm never wasting my money on again. If I go for another FFA pvp game (unlikely unless devs can get their act together and make them properly) it will be MO.

Blurb wise it is in much the same vein as Darkfall. And similarly to Darkfall and Vanguard they started out with a VISION™ and every update snip something else out. Also started taking preorders way before it was even close to public beta to raise cash for development, which probably isn't a good sign. Might turn out good though, who knows.
