Rift
I have just preordered this MMO slated for release for 1st March.

The main interesting feature for me is the class setup:-

Rogue/Mage/Warrior/Cleric

The each has 8 sub classes
(very rough guide)
Aoe DPS/DPS/Healer/Defence/Special/Special

Iam looking forward to playing a Rogue

Ranger (range dps+pet)/Marksman (range dps+utility)/Bard (heals)

As my main spec and here is the beauty of the game
I can have upto 7 other specs for that toon.
so I could be a

Assasin (dps+stealth)/Riftstalker(dps+teleport)/(bard (heals)

or a

Ranger (range dps+pet)/ Assassin (dps+stealth)

Here is a link to a toon builder
http://www.riftrolebuilder.com/

Gear might be a issue for the spec changing especially since their is pvp gear and pve gear but I would of loved to of been able to switch from
fire to ice easily (and maybe some earth fun) in daoc on my mage.

Game play is likened to WOW. Setup likened to WAR but most comments
say they have taken the best bits of both.

My Overall opinion is it looks good enough to try and I am hoping
for at least 60% DAOC greatness factor.

Oh another point is that the pvp war maps are cross server linked
and include the american servers (accounts are global). So should cut down alot on any queues.

RE: Rift
I was talking to Phil about this just the other day. Looks promising, but then so have many since DAOC died.

It seems hard to get hold of in the UK tho. Im not sure if this is because the rights have been sold to Ubisoft for the EU or not. If they have got it we may have to wait a bit longer for them to add their usual game breaking DRM or insert some product placement etc.

RE: Rift
I bought it direct from trion as its not region locked you can play both in na and eu on same account.

My views on the game are constantly changing.
PvE sounds all sorted 5/10/20 man raid dungeons
Instant PvP
Flagged PvP in World PvP
(PvP servers are faction based so might play there for better PvP)

Their are alot of ex doac players on forums pushing for decent World PvP with objectives and some
hints(from trion) have being made that its going to arrive but I dont trust any game company.

Fingers crossed!

RE: Rift
Rift will be in open Beta next week for all those interested.....

Rift™ Open Beta Event Scheduled to Start February 15th!
On February 15th Trion will lift the veil on their upcoming MMORPG Rift™ with a six-day open beta event, giving all would-be Defiants and Guardians the opportunity to preview the epic world of Telara before the game launches worldwide on March 1st. Servers are scheduled to be open from 10:00 AM PST on Tuesday, February 15th to 10:00 AM PST on Monday, February 21st, giving users a taste of Telara, including two playable factions, the first 42 levels of play, three PvP warfronts, and several zones and dungeons to explore.

Sign up now at http://www.riftgame.com/betasignup for a guaranteed spot in the “Telara the Merciless” beta event, and secure your spot in the Rift head start period (February 24-March 1) by pre-ordering the game now at http://www.riftgame.com/preorder.

Been playing the closed beta a bit and it's got some nice ideas, not sure it's a DaoC beater yet tho (I have only got to level 10 mind and not seen any pvp).

RE: Rift
I've been following it from a distance (lurking in the bushes) and the consensus I've picked up is that it's more of a polished Aion, better done and without the sillier moments or the huge grind.

Two playable factions is an automatic fail in my book when it comes to faction based pvp, but apparently what is there is quite fun and is getting a lot of dev attention, which is nice if sustained. Will probably buy it for a run around at least, no idea where the time to play it is going to come from though. Smile

RE: Rift
Picked it up as well. Played some beta and ready for early access Smile
Noting extremely new, but might still be enjoyable.

Probably going for Rogue with Bard as main soulspec.

Noevilcross, Gimble and me are all going to aim for same server.
Race and server choice might depend on TOG (http://www.theoldergamers.com). Not joined those guys in any game yet, so this _might_ become the first one in that regard.

RE: Rift
Yeh, I pre-ordered it as well (ever the optimist) even though from my Beta play it doesn't look a DaoC beater but TBH even DaoC can't live upto my rose tinted view of DaoC.

I have picked no server, or side to play yet.

N.B im playing the Firesand shard in beta btw.

RE: Rift
Cool, give a shout when you've got a side/server in mind for release. Smile

I was looking at rogue/marksman, mainly just because I miss my hunter. No idea if they're any good though or if there is anywhere to play stealth games - warfronts sound like instanced wow/war style battlegrounds, not sure what the "contested zones" are though?

RE: Rift
Tempted to go for Defiant here. Their background and lore sounds kind of interesting Smile
Still a few days until final decision though. Presume non EU servers might be to tough on the ping-side, anybody tested that yet ?

PvP wise I've got no experience, have only played around with various classes at low level.
Those Rifts sound semi Aion though(?), except on a PvE server that might not be so problematic at the receiving end...unless they can camp/destroy quest hubs ? Hmm, I might need to do some more reading Smile

RE: Rift
Both Sides have the same classes? If thats so then I really don't care which side i'm on, so I will go with which ever side seems the more popular.

All servers (EU and US) are linked together for PVP zones anyway I think so I see no need to goto the US servers, unless your only worried about PvE at some point in the future (when the game dies).

I will be going for a PVP server tho.
