So any of you lovely people who fancies giving SWTOR a go, it'd be great if you made your characters there. "Council of War" is just a vehicle to get folk in the right server. Once there we could form/join a red shadows guild if you prefer. (we're going Republic though) I believe 'Marlybone' is in the guild (a name some may recognise from DaoC) and can get the Red Shadows ball rolling.

1) The weird pricing structure/release dates etc. Why is buying a product on steam more expensive than buying the physical product (which involves manufactoring, handling, storage and shipping fees etc). From what I can gather the publishing companies set the steam prices themselves and STEAM takes a flat 30% of it. Also why do I have to wait an extra month to get it on STEAM (Only in the UK mind) especially as it makes them more money??

2) With so many regular offers on steam, gog, direct2drive, gamersgate, greenmangaming, etc etc im actually amazed that anyone would actually buy a full price game anymore.

In fact they're coming so often that i've actually held off from buying RAGE, F3AR, Dead Island, Deus EX, all at least 50% off, because I know they will be available again in the XMAS sales. They may even have bigger discounts and hopefully be GOTY versions.

3) The piss poor state of play on release. Look at Rage, Skyrim, SOTS 2 etc. all games I really want but didn't bother to pre-order because I knew they would be problems on release. Skyrim is the one I wanted the most but I know that until the modders fix all the problems then it's not worth playing as it would ruin the experience until everything is fixed.

4) DLC - I have no problem with this if it's done properly. I.e. expansion packs, but stuff like horse barding in Oblivion or the retextured 'new' map packs (old maps from previous games) on MW etc. As it stands at the moment I will wait for the GOTY versions.

5) DRM. With DRM like UBISOFTS 'always on' DRM making a lot of their games unplayable why would you buy their games with the spector of not being able to play your game if there's a problem with your network, their network or any of the network points between?

I also remember buying FM2010 and not being able to 'unlock' my game to play for 2 days after release because SEGA had decided to add an extra layer of DRM to steam by making you log onto yet another website and jump through hoops there. Their servers apparently couldn't handle all the requests and just fell over and died. This problem was made almost amusing by having all the people who had pirated, and cracked the game, posting on the support forums telling us how they were playing the game already with no problems.

6) Consoleitus - Ok this tends to be a general problem with PC games atm. Im not talking about games being optimised for 7 year old technology (it means i don't have to update my PC as often) but stuff like FPS's designed purely for gamepads e.g. with mouse acceleration, auto aim etc. Ridiculous size fonts and locked FOV's. Most of this is corrected by looking at fansites a few months after release for .ini fixes etc etc.


Due to a combination of the above I think I have only bought one full price game in the last 2 years and don't really see me buying any more in the near future. The game I bought was the Witcher 2 from GOG. Mainly due to the worldwide flat price and absence of DRM.

Am I the only one? Has anyone actually bought Skyrim on PC or are you also waiting until it's got it's problems and multitude of DLC out of the way?]]>

Edit - Just watched the video and it looks like Youtube compressed it some what so you can't quite see whats going on Sad.
What the clip is showing can best be seen from about 1:10. You can see the guy turns at 45 degree angles, casts a buff waits 5s and then repeats. The wait I assume is for the macro program to select nearest enemy and then attack. If nothing is targeted it turns another 45 degrees ans selects nearest target etc etc.

This can clearly be seen by the fact that there's mobs that would be in range of him if he would take just a few steps in any direction, yet he just does this slow methodical turn. Also note he still doesn't move when I attack him. He doesn't even turn to face me. The same result every time I ganked him.

Oh one more thing, and I can't believe I missed this - The name and shame!!! He is called Nespnana and plays a Guardian on the Firesand server.]]>

There are plenty of good guides around just waiting to be googled, if you can't be arsed then at least read the following on how to setup a couple of melee macros. By doing this I managed to condense about 3 QB (quickbars) into 4 buttons.

The first thing to note about macros in Rift is that they can have upto 26 actions assigned to them but will only do 1 action per button click. The macro will go through each action programmed to it and do the 1st one in the list, if it can't (e.g. it's on a timer or waiting for you to dodge/parry first etc) then it will move onto the next one in the list and keep moving down the list until it gets to the first available ability.

Because Rift is a modern MMO almost every action is on some kind of timer (something that peeves me no end tbfh) and so this macro system is a god send. Whilst it doesn't allow me press one button and go make a cuppa whilst my toon goes something like ....
macro = mez/stun/debuff/debuff/buff/buff/biggest attack/2nd biggest attack/3rd biggest attack/ 2nd biggest attack/biggest attack etc
and come back after mob is dead.

It does allow me to just spam 1 button and concentrate on the action on the screen rather than looking at my QB's playing a glorified version of wack-a-mole!

So how do you set them up? Easy peesy!

1) On the main menu select the macros button.
2) Click on one of the empty slots on the left.
3) Click on the name box and type in what you want to name your macro
4) Click on the icon box and select the icon you want your macro to have (Or type #show "name of ability" - without the ")
5) In the text box at the bottom of the screen type cast "name of ability"
6) In the next line type cast "name of 2nd ability"
7) Continue this for as many abilities as you want.
8) Drag the macro icon too your QB.

Remember it will try and do the first ability every time you press the macro button so if you put an anytime ability in the list make sure it is last otherwise any abilties after it in the list will never get activated.

Heres the 3 macros that I have for my Shaman/Druid/Sentinal spec

1) melee

#show fae hammer
cast combined effort
cast eruption of life
cast Fae Hammer
cast Massive Blow
cast Bombard
cast Trickster Spirit

2) shields

The macro will go through each action programmed to it and do the 1st one in the list, if it can't (e.g. it's on a timer or waiting for you to dodge/parry first etc) then it will move onto the next one in the list and keep moving down the list until it gets to the first available ability.

Because Rift is a modern MMO almost every action is on some kind of timer (something that peeves me no end tbfh) and so this macro system is a god send. Whilst it doesn't allow me press one button and go make a cuppa whilst my toon goes something like ....
macro = mez/stun/debuff/debuff/buff/buff/biggest attack/2nd biggest attack/3rd biggest attack/ 2nd biggest attack/biggest attack etc
and come back after mob is dead.

It does allow me to just spam 1 button and concentrate on the action on the screen rather than looking at my QB's playing a glorified version of wack-a-mole!

So how do you set them up? Easy peesy!

1) On the main menu select the macros button.
2) Click on one of the empty slots on the left.
3) Click on the name box and type in what you want to name your macro
4) Click on the icon box and select the icon you want your macro to have (Or type #show "name of ability" - without the ")
5) In the text box at the bottom of the screen type cast "name of ability"
6) In the next line type cast "name of 2nd ability"
7) Continue this for as many abilities as you want.
8) Drag the macro icon too your QB.

Remember it will try and do the first ability every time you press the macro button so if you put an anytime ability in the list make sure it is last otherwise any abilties after it in the list will never get activated.

Heres the 3 macros that I have for my Shaman/Druid/Sentinal spec
